Italian Style Lasagna

The classic Italian lasagna is an old homemade recipe. It has a balance of cheese, noodles and Bolognese sauce.

Preparation time: 1 hour 30 minutes

Cook time: 50 minutes

Serves: 8

Ingredients:

  • Italian sausage
  • Ground beef
  • Minced onion
  • Garlic
  • Tomatoes
  • Tomato sauce
  • Chicken (broth)
  • Basil leaves
  • Oregano
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Lasagna noodles
  • Cheese
  • Eggs
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Parmesan cheese

Directions:

  • Heat a large pot at medium heat and add some sausage and ground beef. Cut the meat into small square pieces, using a knife. Add onion and garlic and cook until the meat turns brown. Keep stirring occasionally.
  • Now pour in sugar, oregano, and fennel, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, chicken broth, salt, and pepper. Stir well and let the ingredients mix well. Reduce heat.
  • Take some cheese, eggs and some parsley. Put them in a mixing bowl and mix nicely. Refrigerate and wait for the lasagna to set in.
  • For the lasagna to set in, spread meat sauce on the pan. Place the noodles on top. Spread the parmesan and mozzarella cheese. Keep doing this for another 3 layers.
  • Cover loosely with an aluminum foil and bake in the oven for 25 minutes. Take it out once the cheese turns brown.
  • Serve hot with some additional seasoning and garnish.

Time: 1 hour 30 minutes

Serves: 8-10

Ingredients:

  • 2 large zucchini
  • Salt
  • Ground beef
  • Black pepper
  • Bell pepper
  • Onion
  • Tomato paste
  • Tomato sauce
  • Egg
  • Cheese
  • Wine
  • Basil leaves
  • Fresh mushrooms
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Parmesan cheese

Directions:

  • Slice the zucchini into thin slices. Sprinkle salt and pepper.
  • To prepare the meat sauce, cook and stir the beef and black pepper in a skillet. Add in green pepper, onion and cook until the meat s no longer pink. Reduce heat.
  • Meanwhile, stir egg, parsley, and cheese together.
  • To assemble the lasagna, spread meat sauce into the bottom of a pan. Then place the zucchini layers on top of the meat sauce along with the mozzarella and parmesan cheese. Repeat this for the next 2 -3 layers.
  • Cover in an aluminum foil and bake for 45- 50 minutes. Remove the covering and bake for an additional 15 minutes.  
  • Serve hot.

You are free to experiment with your lasagna. Based on your preferences, turkey, beef or pork can be used in the recipe. Different varieties of cheeses can be combined in too. A lot of great sauces add flavor and depth to the dish.

Before jumping into your lasagna it is necessary to let it rest for some time. The longer you let it rest, the better it will set.
